When we think about the topic of “denying” in Scripture, we cannot help but think first of Peter’s three-fold denial of Jesus while the Savior was on trial (even denying “with an oath” and “to curse and swear” for emphasis and credibility). When we think about denying the Lord from that standpoint (with such vehemence), we shudder at the prospect of doing such ourselves.
But, it is possible (and practiced even more often) to DENY THE LORD WITHOUT SAYING A SINGLE WORD! That’s right! You can deny the Lord non- verbally, and perhaps even do so without realizing it. For example, the Lord says that “if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith…” (1 Tim. 5:8). It is also possible to live your life with “a form of godliness but denying its power” (2 Tim. 3:5).
Brother or sister, please consider this carefully. Are you making any decisions that deny the Lord or His will? Are you doing anything (or choosing not to do something) that is denying the Lord or His will? Sunday-morning-only Christians, are you affirming or denying the Lord?
