In the days of the Old Testament (Psa. 2:1), in the days of the New Testament (Acts 4:25-26) and in the days of present-day America, there are those who “rage” against God, “plot a vain thing” against Him, “set themselves” against Him and “counsel together against the Lord” (Psa. 2:1-2). Their intent is to “break” the bonds/laws/Word of God “in pieces and cast [it] away” (2:3).
Regardless of how successful they may believe they are or will be, and regardless of how successful we believe they are or will be, God knows that their “rage” against Him is in “vain”! Psalm 2:4 says, “He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; the Lord shall hold them in derision.” The Lord laughs, for His purpose cannot be broken (cf. Acts 4:28). The Lord laughs, for His Word “endures forever” (1 Pet. 1:25). The Lord laughs, for His Word “shall not return to [Him] void” (Isa. 55:11). The Lord laughs, for man’s efforts against Him are truly “vain” (Psa. 2:1). The Lord laughs, “for He sees that [the wicked man’s] day is coming” (Psa. 37:12-13).
The proper response? Be wise, be instructed, serve the Lord, trust in Him (Psa. 2:10-12).
