It is hard to imagine being the apostle Paul. At first, the Lord sent him to preach to the Jews, but God’s ultimate plan was for this “Hebrews of the Hebrews” (Phil. 3:5) to be “an apostle to the Gentiles” (Rom. 11:13; 1 Tim. 2:7; 2 Tim. 1:11). Can you imagine arriving in a Gentile city where you had never been before, in order to preach to them about another Jew (named Jesus of Nazareth), whom the God of heaven (in whom most Gentiles did not believe) had sent to sacrifice Himself on a cross for all mankind’s sins and was raised again the third day (1 Cor. 15:1-4)? He started in a semi-safe, semi-neutral place in the Jewish synagogues (Acts 17:1-4), but not every city had one (like Philippi, Acts 16:13), and yet he would eventually make his way into the populace to preach among the heathen. What boldness, faith and courage he had!
What about you? You and I are not likely going into an entirely hostile city (or maybe we should), but our task is to reach ONE person at a time (2 Tim. 2:2). So, who is your ONE person today?
