Let's Go Back to the Bible

A Wake-Up Call on Southwest Airlines

Flying up to the Freed-Hardeman Lectures and sitting next to a young couple, I could tell they were a “couple” (and not brother and sister) by the way they were acting and talking to each other.  It was only a 50-minute flight, but I learned a lot about this couple.

Initially, I was uncertain if they were college age or high school age.  From their conversation, it became obvious they were still in high school, probably Juniors.  How sad, considering all I learned.

Of course, when I sat down, I had no idea how long this couple had been together.  Then, it became clear, from their discussions, that they had only been a couple for a few weeks, maybe months.  She told him that her mother really liked him and thought he was good for her.  I’m not so sure.

For the entire flight, her hands were all over him.  And, when I say, “all over,” I mean ALL OVER.  He was not touching her a great deal, but her hands knew no limits.

Then, there was this revelation.  They were flying to see his mom for the weekend, so that his mom could meet his girlfriend.  He didn’t live with his mom, but it was obvious she had more religious inclinations than this couple did.  Listen to this conversation between these two 16 year olds.

“Are you gonna sleep with me tonight?” she asked playfully.

“I don’t know.  I doubt it.  She [his mom] doesn’t like that,” he sighed.

“Oh…[expletive]…Well, you could come and ‘visit’ me in my room tonight for a while.  Right?” she suggested.

“Maybe.  We’ll have to see what happens,” he replied.

“We could be quiet.  Come on.”

I know this is more than you want to read.  It was more than I wanted to hear.  But, I believe, unfortunately, it is a reflection of where young people are today — hands, hearts, minds and bodies that go beyond God’s designated boundaries.

God says, “Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness…” (Gal. 5:19-21).  Think about, research and study those words.  “Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge” (Heb. 13:4).

Let young people (and older, too) prayerfully consider God’s desire for all sexual activity to be saved for marriage.
