There is probably dwelling in your mind right now some really great movie quotes like, “You keep using that word” or “May the force be with you.” There is probably abiding in your mind right now some really great song lyrics like, “When you wish upon a star” or “It’s the eye of the tiger.” Your mind could go on and on in reciting these kinds of things. How is that possible? Because you have spent so much time listening, watching and absorbing. That’s not a bad thing, in this case. It’s just an illustration of how that happens.
God tells us, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom” (Col. 3:16). The word “dwell” indicates to let something make its home within you. How often do you let the word of God richly “make its home” in your heart? Songs and movies get embedded in your heart due to repetition and finding enjoyment therefrom. The same can and should happen with Scripture. The more time you spend IN IT, the deeper and richer it will dwell IN YOU.
