Let's Go Back to the Bible

“My kid is…”

“My kid is cute.”  “My kid is smart.”  “My kid is funny.”  “My kid is athletic.”  “My kid is talented.”  “My kid is musically gifted.”  “My kid is artistic.”  “My kid is a math whiz.”  “My kid is really popular.”  “My kid is at the top of the class.”  “My kid is on the honor roll.”  “My kid is going to college.”  “My kid is attending a premier university.”  “My kid is going to school on a scholarship.”  “My kid is succeeding in business.”  “My kid is highly qualified in that field.”  “My kid is making it in the real world.”  “My kid is doing wonders for the community.”  “My kid is focused on home and family life.”  “My kid is retiring early with plans to travel the world.”

Ask any parent, old or young, to complete this sentence (“My kid is…”), and the variety of the responses will be overwhelming.  Yet, none of the accolades in the first paragraph are worth much of anything if a parent cannot also say—“My kid is growing in Biblical knowledge and love for the Lord.”  “My kid is a Christian.”  “My kid is a faithful Christian.”  “My kid is going to heaven.”  May God help us to focus more on these goals than earthly ones.
