Let's Go Back to the Bible

Is it your glory?

The wisdom of God has much to tell us about controlling our reactions toward others and controlling our tempers. Those of us who struggle with that have read many of the passages in Scripture on this subject, but we would do well to go over them again and even memorize some. 2019-11-13-Is-it-your-glory

Proverbs 19:11 is one such text. “The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger…” Stop for just a moment. Are you a person of “discretion,” or as the ESV translates, a person of “good sense”? Have you replaced the brake pads on your anger recently, so that you can slow it down quickly and bring it to a safe stop before a collision? God’s repair shop is still open!

The verse continues, “…And it is his glory to overlook an offense.” Whoa! “You mean that when someone does me wrong, it is to my glory to overlook it and let it go?” That’s what it says. A Christian, like his Savior, is to carry about a forgiving spirit, which he is willing to extend to others, as necessary. If it is my glory to overlook an offense, what if I harbor it?
