Let's Go Back to the Bible

Hiding fire inside your shirt–Not a good idea!

If you tried to carry an ice cream cone inside your shirt, how do you think that would work out? Definitely not well, and it would make a huge mess. What about if you tried to carry fire inside your shirt? How do you think that would work out? That may seem like a silly question, but there are too many who are doing just that and do not realize they are being consumed!

In a very explicit warning to abstain from all sexual temptations outside of marriage, the Lord posts this high alert: “Can a man take fire to his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? Can one walk on hot coals, and his feet not be seared? So is he who goes in to his neighbor’s wife; whoever touches her shall not be innocent” (Prov. 6:27-29).

The “lust” and “allure” (6:25) that drives one’s sexual passions is a fire that burns (cf. 1 Cor. 7:9). To allow that fire into one’s heart is to set oneself ablaze with a craving that is extremely hard to control. Brothers, we cannot afford to let even a spark into our “bosom”!
