Let's Go Back to the Bible

You’re already spoken for

Sometimes it may be the sight of a wedding ring or a photo on your desk that tells another person that you’re “already spoken for.” Or maybe it’s a friend of yours who speaks up for you to let others know that you’re “already spoken for.” Being married is exclusive. And when you’re “already spoken for,” you know what that means and so does everyone else.

Paul used similar terminology in the New Testament regarding your relationship with Jesus. He told some Christians, “For I have betrothed you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ” (2 Cor. 11:2). Paul told another family of Christians that they were “married…to Him who was raised from the dead” (Rom. 7:4).  Yes, you’re “already spoken for”!

When you’re married, you shouldn’t even look at another with any desire! The same is true of being married to Christ! When you’re married, you should let others know that you’re “already spoken for”! The same is true of being married of Christ! You are His! “Submit” and “be faithful” (Eph. 5:24; Rev. 2:10).
