One of the best scenes in “The Princess Bride” is when Inigo Montoya has heard Vizzini repeatedly use (or rather, misuse) the word, “Inconceivable,” and he tells him, “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”
I think of that scene often when scrolling social media and seeing the praying hands emoji used repeatedly and sometimes with the word “praying” typed out. I think it is ABSOLUTELY wonderful for people to be able to share various needs on social media and for other folks to tell them that they are PRAYING! What could be better? Nothing!
I just want to ask you—yes, you: Do you ever use that emoji and do you ever type, “praying,” or something like that? I hope that you do! That’s so encouraging for someone to read! But here’s the real question: Do you ACTUALLY pray to God for them? Or are you just emoji-ing and typing? The real difference happens when we actually stop and talk to God! So, keep using that emoji, but “mean it” when you do…and stop and pray!
