The expression “We know” is found 53 times in the Bible. Only five of those are in the Old Testament, which leaves 48 in the New Testament. Of those 48, one New Testament author uses 30 of them. Who would you guess that is?
The apostle John is the inspired penman who writes “we know” thirty times—13 of the 30 are in his account of the gospel, and then 17 of the 30 (one-third of every occurrence in the whole Bible) are in the little book of First John. The gospel of John records individuals affirming about Jesus: “We know that You are a teacher come from God…We know that this is indeed the Christ” (3:2; 6:42).
The apostle fills his short epistle with: “…we know that we know Him…we know that we are in Him…we know that we shall be like Him… we know that we are of the truth…we know that He abides in us…we know that we abide in Him…we know that He hears us…we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him…we know that the Son of God has come…that we may know Him…” (2:3, 5; 3:2, 19, 24; 4:13; 5:15, 20). Take time to savor what “we know”!
