Let's Go Back to the Bible

Taste Test

Have you ever tried one of those taste tests, where they try to see how refined or how choosey your tastes really are? How well can you taste the difference in similar foods or drinks? Are you able to sense whether you will like the taste of something even before you try it? I love how God uses words (like “taste”) that have a definite meaning to us and makes spiritual application.

Think about these verses. How much do you like God’s Word? Have you “tasted the good word of God” (Heb. 6:5) and concluded, “How sweet are Your words to my taste, Sweeter than honey to my mouth” (Psa. 119:103)? In your relationship with God, have you indeed “tasted that the Lord is gracious” (1 Pet. 2:3)? “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good” (Psa. 34:8). Being saved by the Lord from sins is so wonderful that one Bible writer described Christians as those who “have tasted the heavenly gift” (Heb. 6:4).

How’s your taster? When it comes to pleasing God, how does that taste to you?
