Let's Go Back to the Bible

“Lord, I hate them!”

Oops! Could that get me in trouble with God? To tell God that I hate certain persons on this earth (ones whom He has created and ones for whom His Son died) — surely doing something like that must be close to being an “unpardonable sin,” wouldn’t you think?

Read these words of David, a man after God’s own heart. “[The wicked] speak against You wickedly; Your enemies take Your name in vain” (Psa. 139:20). So, what was David’s reaction? “Do I not hate them, O Lord, who hate You? And do I not loathe those who rise up against You?” (v. 21). Whew! At least he didn’t actually say that he hated them. Read the next verse. “I hate them with perfect (or complete) hatred; I count them my enemies” (v. 22). Whoa! That’s pretty strong language! David said that he hated those who hated God. Question: Do you?

When a person rises up against God, speaks against God, and shows obvious contempt for God, how do you react? Are you gentle? Tolerant? Brethren, it’s not time for us to be open-minded to attacks against God! One who makes himself an enemy of God automatically makes himself an enemy of God’s people! Think about it! Pray about it! — DS
