I got in line behind a young man who was wearing a brown t-shirt that had text on the front and the back. The front read, “Jesus: Because of Him” and the back, “Heaven Knows Your Name.” The friendly young man, who had a Down Syndrome-like appearance, turned when he saw me and said, “If you need a good church, go to _____. That’s where I go. That’s a really good church.” He didn’t know me or anything about me, but there was only one thing that mattered to him and he wanted to share it with me. We had a nice conversation and he went on his way, but he left quite an impression (on me and on the people around us).
The real-to-life lesson from this is pretty obvious, isn’t it? How comfortable are we with who we are? Or, to state it another way, how comfortable are we with Whose we are? When we go about our everyday activities, is there something that matters to us more than anything else? Something that is always on our minds, regardless of where we are or what we’re doing? When was the last time you said to someone, “If you need a good church, go to the church of Christ. That’s where I go. That’s a really good church”?
