Whenever you buy new electronic equipment, the user manual always has a “Troubleshooting” section in the back, which lists potential problems and the corresponding solutions. When you take your car to the mechanic, he will always do some troubleshooting to find the exact problem. When you are sick and go to the doctor, he also will go through a series of troubleshooting questions and exams to determine the ailment and its cause. Troubleshooting is an important process for properly evaluating and then proceeding down a correct path.
Troubleshooting is a Scriptural requirement, as well. Consider these instructions: “Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?–unless indeed you are disqualified” (2 Cor. 13:5). Get out your “Troubleshooting Manual”! “Look into it” carefully (Jas. 1:25). Do a self-examination. What are some areas that are not working? Is there anything happening with you that shouldn’t be? Then, having diagnosed the problem areas, open the “Troubleshooting Manual,” find the corresponding solution, talk to the Manufacturer about it and take the corrective steps!
