Let's Go Back to the Bible

Opinions are like noses

One of my favorite people, David Lipe, has been known to say, “Opinions are like noses–everybody’s got one and they’re all different!” Isn’t that the truth! Everywhere you go, somebody’s got an opinion about something–the world, politics, media, sports, fashion, children, education, entertainment AND religion! That’s right! Everybody’s got their own opinion about religion! However, human opinions are worthless where there is Divine revelation!

Nadab and Abihu’s opinion about fire was worthless (Lev. 10:1-3). Uzzah’s opinion about transporting the ark was worthless (2 Sam. 6:3-7). Naaman’s opinion about curing leprosy was worthless (2 Kgs. 5:1-14). The Pharisees’ opinion about worship was worthless (Matt. 15:7-9).

Why were their opinions worthless? Because where there is Divine revelation (i.e., “Thus says the Lord”), there is no need, place or value for human opinions (cf. Isa. 55:8-9)! There is only need, place and value for human submission and obedience (Heb. 5:8-9; Jas. 4:7)!
