Let's Go Back to the Bible

Must himself (or herself) be friendly

The wisdom of the book of Proverbs is so practical and it just makes sense. One such nugget of truth states, “A man who has friends must himself be friendly” (Prov. 18:24). How true is that? Someone who is not “friendly” does not have many “friends”!

Sometimes folks in the church will be upset because they don’t have many friends in the church. Can I ask a question? How “friendly” have you been? Have you come to services early and stayed late to visit with folks? Have you reached out via text and phone to fellow members regularly to check on them and encourage them? Have you invited folks over to your house? Have you invited folks to go to lunch with you on Sunday after worship? Have you sought opportunities to serve your brethren? What efforts have you made to be friendly and to make friends in the church?

It’s not fair to blame others for not being your friend if you are not first a friend to them. The church needs more friends! Will you be a friendly friend to others, starting today?
