You would think that I would learn, but so far I haven’t. It has been my habit for many years to grab my keys, wallet and pocket knife every morning. (Each one has its own pocket.) Without fail, I do this every day before I leave the house. Most of the time when I fly, I remember to pack my pocket knife in my checked bag. Well, last week when we flew to Trinidad, I walked up to the security checkpoint and realized my knife was in my pocket. Ugh! In the trash it went!
As I dropped it in the bin (third one in about 12 years), I thought about that verse, “It is certain we can carry nothing with us when we leave” (or something like that, 1 Timothy 6:7). But that is the truth! No matter what daily habits I have…no matter how many times I carry a pocket knife to the airport…I cannot take the knife with me! No matter what daily habits I have…no matter how many times I place my life’s emphasis on “things”…I cannot take a single “thing” of this world with me “when I fly out of here for eternity”! You only have one soul! You only get one opportunity to save it before departure!
