Let's Go Back to the Bible

How do I wait on the Lord?

A favorite Bible verse of many Christians is Isaiah 40:31, which portrays the beauty of “those who wait on the Lord.”  But, what does it mean to “wait on the Lord”?  How does a person do that?  By reading passages in Scripture which speak of waiting on the Lord, we should be able to find how God defines this marvelous concept and what must accompany the waiting.

Those who wait on the Lord must do so “patiently” (Psa. 37:7; 40:1), “silently” (Psa. 62:1) and “quietly” (Lam. 3:26).

Those who wait on the Lord “do not fret” (Psa. 37:7), but they wait with “courage” (Psa. 27:14), “hope” (Psa. 39:7), “integrity and uprightness” (Psa. 25:21), for our “expectation is from Him [alone]” (Psa. 62:5).

Those who wait on the Lord “keep His way” (Psa. 37:34), “rejoice in His salvation” (Isa. 25:9), “hope in His word” (Psa. 130:5) and “will not be ashamed” (Isa. 49:23).  Are you waiting?
