Children are a blessing from the Lord (cf. Psa. 127:3). Not everyone sees that. Special needs children especially are a blessing from the Lord. But, not everyone sees that either. Sometimes we may look at a special needs child or we may grieve the untimely death of a child, and we may lament that, “He never got to grow up like other kids. She never got to get married. He never got to experience the thrill of victory and accomplishment.”
Maybe we focus too much on what we think is most important for a meaningful life and what someone “didn’t get to do.” What if we focused on what such a one “did get to do”? He/She did get to…feel loved by others, bring joy to others, help others see the blessing of life, experience the pure innocence of sinless happiness, etc. Best of all, innocent children get to “come to” Jesus (Matt. 19:14) and be taken “up in His arms” (Mark 10:16). They don’t “miss out”! No, they get to experience the highest blessing of all, eternally secure “with the Lord” (2 Cor. 5:8).
