Let's Go Back to the Bible

“God took His car to get an oil change one day…”

Getting an oil change is one of those laughably frustrating events in life.  You get out of your car and say, “I’d like an oil change.”  (Simple, straightforward, precise.)  “Ok, sir, we’ll get right on it.”  You go into the customer area and wait…you know what’s coming next.  The nice gentleman comes in with your air filter in hand and begins his spiel:  “Well, your air filter is looking bad, your power steering fluid needs flushed, your windshield wipers are cracking, your transmission fluid is pretty dark,” etc., etc.  Remember what you asked for?  An oil change! You specifically asked for an oil change and now they’re trying to add all this other stuff you didn’t want.

Imagine if God went to get an oil change.  He told them exactly what He wanted.  Then, the nice gentleman came and tried to convince God that He should accept all of this other stuff that He didn’t request.  Isn’t that similar to the approach many people take with the Bible?  There is that which God has required of us and it is simple, straightforward and precise.  What person is there among us with the right to go to God and say, “Well, You need this and this…?”  – DS
