Let's Go Back to the Bible

Everything grows old, except for God

Everything grows old, except for God

Like it or not, you are growing older. In fact, everything around you is growing older. “For my days are consumed like smoke, And my bones are burned like a hearth…Because of the sound of my groaning My  bones cling to my skin…My days are like a shadow that lengthens, And I wither away like grass” (Psa. 102:3-11). Yes, you are growing older.

Everything in God’s creation is wearing out. “Of old You laid the foundation of the earth, And the heavens are the work of Your hands. They will perish…Yes, they will all grow old like a garment…” (102:25-26). Nothing lasts. It all fades and fails.

By way of sharp contrast, Psalm 102 has the word “but” three times in its 28 verses, and each time it is followed by the same word. Yes, man and all creation withers away, “But You, O Lord, shall endure forever” (102:12). “But You will endure” (102:26). “But You are the same, and Your years will have no end” (102:27).

Thank God, that while everything around us (including “us”) wears out, He does not!
