Let's Go Back to the Bible

Dogs have beds, birds have cages, fish have tanks, but…

It is so hard to believe that when Jesus was on the earth that He could make this statement, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head” (Matt. 8:20).  How is it possible that no one would give Jesus a place to live?  Not just a room in their house!  But to give Him an entire house of His own!  Why would no one do that?  What was wrong with the people (in general) and the disciples (in particular) in the first century?

Well, let’s see.  Let’s look at people today.  How many people are there who pamper and provide a quality (perhaps even luxurious) life for their pets?  Dogs have their own beds, birds get massive cages, fish are welcomed into colorfully decorated aquariums, hamsters get their own place with tubes and wheels, etc., etc.  Now, there is nothing wrong with having a pet and spoiling that pet.  But, in perspective, how much is Jesus a part of people’s lives today?  Could it be said, “Dogs have beds, birds have cages, fish have tanks, but Jesus has no home in which He is welcome”?  It appears that not much has changed in the last two thousand years!
