Did you ever use little wooden blocks when you were a kid to build things (maybe like a house)? Was there any difference in your construction project if you tried to build it on a hard floor (like tile) versus on the carpet? Of course there was! What if you tried to build it on the bed? That was even worse than the carpet! You learned as a kid that it mattered what you built upon.
Now, think of something more valuable, meaningful and significant than a wooden-block house. Think about the HOPE that you have. Upon what do you “build” that? What if you build your hopes upon money or material possessions? Good idea? What about upon people? What about upon your health or your bucket list? You know that you would be disappointed, hurt and even devastated by these results—just like building a little house upon the bed.
That’s why Jennie Wilson, in 1904, wrote, “Hold to God’s unchanging hand! Build your hopes on things eternal!” You will never be devastated by those results (Tit. 1:2)!
