Let's Go Back to the Bible

Why Christians Love Vacation Bible School

What an amazing Vacation Bible School we had this year! Our Lord was certainly glorified by this incredible event. While this is certainly true every year, something felt extra great. It was the Christians that made it happen.

So many hands played vital roles in making VBS special this year. Whether we are talking about the planning team, the decorators, the kitchen staff, cooks, bakers, the teachers, the assistants, or the registration staff, everyone contributed in important ways.

We also had help from all demographics of the church. We had young Christians, older Christians, Christians that have been members for a long time, and brand new Christians. Everyone worked together to make it happen. What could possibly motivate such hard work? It’s because Christians love children!

Christians love to work for children. Obviously, a lot of work went into VBS, but you wouldn’t find a complaint amongst those at the work days during the event. They truly love to make events special for our little ones. And they do it because children are a gift from God. Proverbs 17:6 tells us, “Children’s children are the crown of old men, And the glory of children is their father.” And the Bible teaches us to work hard for them. “But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever” (1 Tim. 5:8).

Christians love to sacrifice for children. A great amount of time and money was spent by so many to make this VBS happen. That’s because they are worth it. In the hearts of children is a reflection of the heart of believers. Jesus commanded, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven” (Matt. 19:14).

Christians love to teach children. There is an incredible amount of satisfaction in seeing a child grow in the knowledge of our Lord. And this practice comes from all the way back in the Old Testament. God commanded, “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children…” (Deut. 6:6-7).

Christians love to see children loving God. One of the beloved songs we sing at VBS speaks right from 1 John 4:19. We teach them to sing, “Oh, how I love Jesus, because He first loved me.” Not much compares to seeing a child experience the love of God through the amazing VBS staff. Because they are loved, they know that they must love their God.

I want to say a very sincere thank you to all of the Christians that made this year’s VBS a love-letter from God.
