There are some amazing givers in the body of Christ! There are those who come and ask things like—“Can I wipe that counter down for you?” “Can I take the trash out?” “Can I clean up that mess for you?”
There are those who see a need and jump to be the one to fulfill it. They grab the vacuum cleaner, they pick up the trash on the bathroom floor, they rush to open a door for an elderly member, they go and wash the windows and weed the flower bed of a widow, etc.
There are those who take time off of work to do something for the Lord and His church—cook for a church event, serve at a church event, work at summer camp, go on a mission trip, take the youth group to an event or on a long-distance trip, etc.
There are those who have a special niche in the work of the church and are about as reliable and automatic as the sun rising in the east. You probably don’t go and see if the sun comes up over the eastern horizon every morning (just to make sure it hasn’t forgotten) and you probably don’t even give it a thought most days, but you sure do benefit from it. There are those who open the church building for services and lock it up; there are those who make sure the air conditioning is cooling and that the sound system is operational; there are those who prepare the communion trays for our worship services. These are folks that we never notice until something goes wrong with their area of work, like we would notice if the sun didn’t rise.
There are those who are “not as able as they used to be,” and their bodies won’t let them be the ones to take the trash out or vacuum the floor or clean the communion trays, but their words are a blessing to those who do. Their heart-felt “thank you” and tender smiles are the very energy-boost needed by their brothers and sisters in Christ. Their bodies are slowing down but their hearts still beat for the Lord!
I am so thankful that Palm Beach Lakes is full of amazing givers! That has nothing to do with how much they put into the basket on Sunday mornings, and has everything to do with how much they put into the joy of serving the Lord every day of their lives. Serving the Lord (and His church) is not a task for them! To them, helping others is not a burden to be carried but a pleasure to be enjoyed! They give and give, not for any attention, not for a pat on the back, not because they have more time or talent than others, not for any other reason than to fulfill the longings of their heart to be like their Friend and Savior, Jesus.
Do you have a giving spirit? If that’s you, thank you! You are such a blessing to God’s family!
