Let's Go Back to the Bible

Tough choices: make them WITH God

Every day we are faced with choices. Some of them are big; some of them are small. Many choices we face are not matters of right or wrong (choosing whether we give into sin or not), but they are life decisions that determine the course of our day, our year or even our life. Rather than make these choices on our own, it is so much  better and easier to make them with God!

Scripture says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him” (Jas. 1:5). Next time you are faced with a big decision, try this three-step approach. First, pray hard for several days (maybe weeks) and ask God to help you decide what to do. After you’ve done that and you begin to make your choice, then change your prayer for the next several days (or weeks) to, “Lord, with Your help, I think I’m going to do [this]. Is that the right thing to do?” After several more days, when you’re on the verge of moving forward with your decision, change your prayer one more time to, “Lord, with Your help I’m about to do [this]. If it’s the wrong thing for me to do, please throw a roadblock in my way very soon.” With this three-step approach, you make a decision WITH God (not alone).

After you’ve gone through with the decision, don’t forget to thank God for His help!
