Let's Go Back to the Bible

Do more than convert to baptism!

It is profoundly clear in the New Testament that baptism is a prerequisite for one’s salvation from sins and the eternal consequences thereof. It certainly takes some maneuvering to make Acts 2:38 say that baptism is NOT for the remission of sins and to make 1 Peter 3:21 say that baptism does NOT save. Bible teaching, in that regard, is plain.

The clarity of this truth and the strong emphasis that is often placed (in one-on-one Bible studies) on this essential step for salvation has sometimes led individuals to be “converted to baptism” rather than being “converted to Christ”! Don’t misread or misunderstand that! Baptism for the remission of sins is absolutely essential to be saved, but a person needs to be convinced and converted to more than just that act. They need to be convinced and converted to the full gospel message, the crucifying of self and the personal transformation into the image of Christ.

Baptism is a “turning again” (Acts 3:19) to the life required by our Savior! Let’s be sure to make that turn and not just “get wet”!
