I wish the fries at Five Guys didn’t taste so good! But, at the same time, I’m so thankful that they do! Mmmm! While baptizing the ends of my fries into ketchup today, I looked at the bags of potatoes stacked at the front of the restaurant. Idaho Potatoes packaged for Five Guys with this tag — “Specially Selected for French Fries.” But, why? Why these particular potatoes? Was it because of what they were — dirty potatoes in the ground? No! Was it because of what they are — just-sittin’-there potatoes pretty much doing nothing? No! They were selected because of what they could be — French fries!
That made me think about us as Christians. We have been tagged by God as “Specially Selected” (cf. 1 Pet. 2:9-10). But, why? Why have we been selected? Finish the tag, “Specially Selected for ____.” For what we were — dirty sinners in the world? No! For what we are — just-sittin’-there people pretty much doing nothing? No! We were selected by God because of what we could be — faithful, loving, genuine, hard-working friends of Jesus always abounding in the labors of His kingdom! “Specially Selected to Glorify God!”
