One of the saddest statements in the Bible is when we read of “all the elders of Israel” (i.e., the leaders) coming before God’s judge, Samuel, and saying, “Look, you are old…Now make us a king to judge us like all the nations” (1 Sam. 8:5). The next verse says that “the thing displeased Samuel,” but what about God? The Lord told Samuel, “They have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them” (8:7). Israel already had a King! He is the “great King over all the earth” (Psa. 47:2), who is “King forever and ever” (Psa. 10:16).
You and I also have a King! He is “the King eternal, 
immortal, invisible” (1 Tim. 1:17). He is “the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords” (1 Tim. 6:15). But, just like Israel, our King has given us the choice of dethroning Him in our hearts and crowning someone or something else as the supreme ruler of our lives, so that we can be like everyone else.
So, who is King of your life? What will your King say to you at the judgment (Matt. 25:40)?
