Twice in the New King James Version the words “not wise” are found used together in that exact order and phrase. Obviously there is more that God considers “not wise” (as he often uses the word “foolish” to describe such individuals), but it is interesting to see these two specific things that God sets forth as “not wise.”
First, in the Old Testament, God said, “Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler; And whosoever erreth thereby is not wise” (Prov. 20:1). God clearly states a condemnation of intoxicating beverage and then identifies those who are still led away by it as “not wise.”
In the New Testament, God said, “But they, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise” (2 Cor. 10:12). Comparing ourselves to a subject standard (like man) instead of the objective standard (of God) is “not wise.”
For those who might think otherwise, God says, “Be not wise in thine own eyes” (Prov. 3:7).
