It is so hard for children, teenagers and some young adults to accept it when certain individuals treat them unfairly and show a strong dislike for them and their manner of life. They want everyone to like them and will, therefore, sometimes change their behavior to get more people to like them. (Notwithstanding, this is not limited to merely those who are young.)
Jesus warned in Luke 6:26, “Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for so did their fathers to the false prophets.” If everyone “likes you” and is saying nice things about you, Jesus said, “Watch out! That’s not good! There’s trouble ahead!” Not only is it not possible to make all the people happy all the time, Jesus said it’s bad news if you even try.
Wisdom reminds us, “Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful” (Prov. 27:6). Find those friends who will be honest with you and help you grow to be stronger in the Lord, and do all you can to be that kind of friend to others (Prov. 27:17).
