Let's Go Back to the Bible

When the cat’s away

You’ve heard it before. “When the cat’s away, the mice will play.” The saying has often been used to describe the behavior of certain individuals when they know that they are not being watched and no one else is around to see them.

This is a dangerous philosophy for Christians to live by, and the Bible warns about such. Slaves, for example, might have been tempted to behave differently when their master was not around, but God instructed not to act “with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God. And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ” (Col. 3:22-24).

To what situation could this apply in your life? When the boss isn’t around? When your parents aren’t around? When your spouse isn’t around? When your church friends or elders aren’t around? Remember, the Lord is always around! Behave like Christ all the time…for His sake!
