Let's Go Back to the Bible

What a difference a new day makes!

One of the greatest events in the closing weeks of Jesus’ life was the raising of Lazarus from the dead. As a result of that great miracle, “many of the Jews…believed in Him” (John 11:45). However, the chief priests, the Pharisees and the Jewish council “plotted to put Him to death” (11:53). They became so desperate to stop people from believing in Jesus that on the Saturday before His crucifixion they “plotted to put Lazarus to death also” (12:9-11).

Things sure looked bleak. But read what immediately followed. “The next day a great multitude …took branches of palm trees and went out to meet [Jesus], and cried out: ‘Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! The King of Israel!'” (12:12-13). One day the focus is on those who wanted to kill Him. The next day the focus is on those who wanted to honor Him.

When you get discouraged, when things look bleak, when others seek your harm, remember this new day in the life of Jesus, and remember the Lord’s mercies “are new every morning” (Lam. 3:22-23)!
