Let's Go Back to the Bible

“Lord, if You are willing”

It would have taken a great deal of boldness for a leper to enter in among the crowds and especially to have approached Jesus Himself. One such man came and worshiped Jesus in Matthew 8, and then he said these fascinating words, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean” (8:2). The words express respect, “Lord.” The words express humility, “If you are willing.” The words express confidence, “You can make me clean.”

Of course, the leper was speaking about and focused on his physical well-being, but the same words could come from our hearts today regarding our spiritual well-being. How much respect do we have for Jesus? How much humility do we exhibit in His presence? How much confidence do we have that He can thoroughly cleanse us from a disease that is infinitely worse than leprosy–a disease called sin?

Thank God that we have a Savior who is willing to cleanse us!
