Let's Go Back to the Bible

“Do you love Me?”

Can you imagine Jesus looking in your eyes and asking you, “Do you love Me?” Oh, what a captivating experience that would be! What a rush of emotions would fill your soul! How would you respond? After gathering ourselves together, most of us would probably respond something like Peter did, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You” (John 21:15-17).

But, how would Jesus “know” that? Other than being omniscient (i.e., knowing all), are we giving Him any indication that we love Him? In our inter-personal relationships, John urges, “Let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth” (1 John 3:18). Isn’t that the same way that Jesus could know of our love for Him–through our actions?

Multiple times on the night of His betrayal Jesus tied inseparably one’s love for Him with keeping His commandments. Take time and read John 14:15, 21, 23, 24, 31; 15:10. Imagine Jesus were to ask you, “Do you love Me?” Would there be any evidence?
