Let's Go Back to the Bible

“Do unto others”

While most Christians know “The Golden Rule,” there are many of us who have a hard time living it consistently. Meditate on this paraphrase (“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”), and ask yourself, “Is this my standard operating procedure?”

What if God had said, “Think about others as you would have them think about you”? Do I want others to be mindful of me, to think positively about me, to want what is best for me? Do I, in return, think that way of others? My golden-rule actions toward others will first begin with having the proper golden-rule thoughts toward others (Luke 6:45). Love “thinks no evil” (1 Cor. 13:5).

What if God had said, “Speak about others as you would have them speak about you?” Do I want others to speak kindly OF me and to speak kindly TO me? Do I, in return, speak kindly OF them and TO them? How well am I practicing my golden-rule words (Eph. 4:25, 29-32)?

Do my thoughts, words and actions toward others emulate Jesus?
