Let's Go Back to the Bible

“…But I can carry you!”

Near the end of “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King,” when Frodo Baggins had nearly completed his task of carrying the One Ring into Mordor, he collapsed from sheer exhaustion. He could not go on. His friend, Samwise “Sam” Gamgee, tried to urge him to finish the journey, but Frodo seemed to have lost the strength to reach the end. Finally, his beloved friend, Sam,  resolved, “Come on, Mr. Frodo. I can’t carry it for you…but I can carry you!”

Do you have a friend like that? As brothers and sisters in Christ, that is illustrative of the love that we are to have for one another, as we “consider one another” (Heb. 10:24), “serve one another” (Gal. 5:13), “comfort one another” (1 Thess. 4:18), “edify one another” (Rom. 14:19) and “bear one another’s burdens” (Gal. 6:2). How many of our brethren feel like they have lost the strength to go on? Will we be there for them to say, “Come on. I can’t carry it for you…but I can carry you!”? We need friends like that in the church! Conversely, we need to be that friend! Let us all resolve to be like our friend, Jesus, who carries us every day!
