Growing up in South Florida, the roads and highways were littered with construction signs and barricades. And, if anyone asked whose name was on the barricades, everyone knew the answer–“Bob’s Barricades.” There was no other name, at that time, in barricades than Bob! But, now, that name has lost its significance and is just 
one of the many that are out there.
This is reminiscent of the history of the Lord’s church. If you grew up in the late first century, you would have seen churches of Christ being established in city after city as the gospel spread. Every church had the same “name,” identifying who established it and to whom it belonged. Everyone began to know and recognize the church of Christ. However, over time, man began to establish his own churches, making it confusing to identify the Lord’s original church.
There was a time when there was only one man’s name found on a church–“Christ”–and only one man’s doctrine taught–Christ’s! Let’s get off man’s detour and back to Christ’s way!
