Let's Go Back to the Bible

Embittered against the church

For a variety of reasons, Christians over the years have allowed themselves to become embittered against the church: a preacher or an elder because of the demands of the work; the wife or children of a preacher or elder because of the demands of the work; a church member because of the behavior of another church member, or because of a decision of the elders, or because too much was asked of them, or because of a feeling of being overlooked or neglected; a straying member from whom fellowship was withdrawn; etc. There is no end to the list of reasons why some Christians have grown estranged and even resentful toward the church.

If this describes you, can I ask you a question (or two)? What about Jesus? He died on the cross for His church! Have you talked to Him about it? Have you placed your unwavering trust in Him? What about you? Is there something in your heart that is fostering embitterment? What would it take on your part for a fresh start with the body of Jesus? Remember: Jesus loved and gave Himself “for me” (Gal. 2:20) and for “the church” (Acts 20:28; Eph. 5:2)!
