Let's Go Back to the Bible

Don’t be mean!

Do you know any mean people? Has anyone been mean to you lately? Doesn’t it just stink and ruin your day when people are mean to you? Next question: Are you ever mean to others? I’m not talking about being firm or standing by your  convictions or exercising proper discipline. I’m talking about being downright and unjustifiably mean to someone.

God tells us that agape love (the Christian love that is unconditional, unselfish and looks out for what is best for others) “does not behave rudely” (NKJV) or “act unbecomingly” (NASB) (1 Cor. 13:4-5). Can you picture Jesus being mean? Can you picture Jesus behaving rudely or acting unbecomingly? No! You can’t. Because He wasn’t! Firm? Yes! Mean or rude? No!

When people were mean to Jesus, He was not mean in return (1 Pet. 2:22-23). He did not retaliate and we must learn not to retaliate! When mean people are mean to you, don’t be mean back to them! And, just don’t be mean in the first place! Be like Jesus!
