In fulfillment of prophecy, as Jesus was hanging on the cross, the religious leaders in voices of derision and blasphemy, jeered, “He trusted in God; let Him deliver Him now if He will have Him” (Matt. 27:43; cf. Psa. 22:8). But, on that day, in order that we might be delivered by God one day in the future, the Father did not deliver the Son. Think about that for a moment!
When the devil tests us, are we on our own? When temptations round you gather, is it hopeless? They mocked Jesus for not being delivered, but what a blessing we enjoy as a result. God wants to “deliver” us and bids us to pray for such (Matt. 6:13). God has already “delivered” us (Col. 1:13), and with confidence we know that He “will deliver” us in the future (2 Tim. 4:18). Here’s a comforting text: “The Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations” (2 Pet. 2:9). He has the will, the power and the knowledge to deliver you!
Do you trust God to deliver you? Open your eyes! Look! He always provides an escape!
