Let's Go Back to the Bible

13 Things Every Teen Needs to Know (#13)

I hope you have enjoyed these truths and applications.  It would be good for you to go back through and read them again now, and then read them again once each year or so as a refresher.  Living for Christ is the greatest thing ever, which leads me to one more thing that I hope you will truly consider, take to heart and keep with you for the rest of your life.

Tune your heart to this:  Be like Jesus! That might sound almost “childish,” but I promise you it is the highest endeavor and goal of every Christian (particularly because we wear His name, “Christ”).  If you will go through each day with the thought—“I want to be like Jesus”—you will live the most blessed life imaginable or possible!  God guarantees it!

Be humble like Jesus! The King of kings “emptied Himself, taking the form of a bondservant, and being made in the likeness of men…He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death” (Phil. 2:6-8).  Jesus was humble and not haughty!  Be like Jesus!

Be a worker like Jesus! Having been determined to “be about [His] Father’s business” (Luke 2:49) at 12 years of age, He then said as an adult, “I must work the works of Him who sent Me” (John 9:4).  Jesus was a worker and not a slacker!  Be like Jesus!

Be a leader like Jesus! Jesus was a leader who set the example for others to follow (Jn. 13:12-15; 1 Pet. 2:21)!  When others see us, they should see people who “look like Jesus” (2 Cor. 3:18) and want to follow us as we follow Christ (1 Cor. 11:1).  Jesus was a leader and not a follower!  Be like Jesus!

Be a finisher like Jesus! Even when things got tough for Jesus, He kept right on going so that He could “finish His work” (John 4:34).  He did not give up or quit, but He kept focused on “the joy set before Him” (Heb. 12:2).  Jesus was a finisher and not a quitter!  Be like Jesus!

Be a self-starter like Jesus! Jesus did not wait for others to ask Him to do good, He just “went about doing good” (Acts 10:38) because that was His “food” and sole desire (John 4:34).  Jesus was a self-starter and not a wait-and-seer!  Be like Jesus!

Be a God-pleaser like Jesus! One of the summaries that Jesus made of His life was, “I always do those things that please [the Father]” (John 8:29).  Jesus was a God-pleaser and not a man-pleaser!  Be like Jesus!

I pray that you will be faithful to God for the rest of your life—not because you HAVE to be but because you WANT to be!  I hope that you will know these truths and make these applications, so that you can look like Jesus now (Rom. 8:29) and “be like Him” (1 John 3:2) when He returns!  Let’s be like Jesus now so that we can be “with Him” forever (Col. 3:4)!
