Let's Go Back to the Bible

19. God Wants All People to Be Saved

19

You will not find two things that are more polar opposite than “God” and “sin.”  Sin is the most devastating disease on the face of the earth, because of who it afflicts and because of its eternal consequences.  “Sin” separates man from his “God,” because sin is contrary to the holy nature of God (Hab. 1:13).  Yet, even though man sins by disregarding and violating the will of God, there is an abundance of love, grace and patience that God has for man that is hard to truly fathom.  Consider how strongly God wants all people to be saved.

First, the Bible teaches that all are lost in their sins. “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Rom. 3:23).  But the Bible does not teach that those who are lost cannot be saved from their sins.

Second, the Bible teaches that all will be judged. “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done…” (2 Cor. 5:10).  But the Bible does not teach that we cannot be prepared for judgment.

Third, the Bible teaches that God wants all to be saved. God “desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Tim. 2:4).  “The Lord is…not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance” (2 Pet. 3:9).  Thus, all have the opportunity to be saved.

Fourth, the Bible teaches that Jesus died for all. Jesus came to this earth that “He might taste death for everyone” (Heb. 2:9; cf. 2 Cor. 5:14-15).  His blood “redeemed [people] out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation” (Rev. 5:9).  Jesus shed His blood so that all could be saved!

Fifth, the Bible teaches that Jesus commissioned His disciples to take the saving power of the gospel to all people. “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15), “warning every man and teaching every man” (Col. 1:28).  Sending the gospel out to all peoples emphasizes that God wants all to be saved and that all men can be saved.

Sixth, the Bible teaches that God is no respecter of persons when it comes to salvation. He invites all to come to Christ and be saved (Matt. 11:28; Tit. 2:11).  “God shows no partiality.  But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him” (Acts 10:34-35).

Seventh, the Bible teaches that salvation is the gift of God. Everyone needs to be saved from their sins!  The great thing is that no one has to be lost!  Being saved “is the gift of God” (Eph. 2:8).  “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son” (John 3:16), in order that everyone in the world might have the opportunity to be saved.

There is no reason for anyone (including you) to not be saved!  The loving God of heaven wants you to be saved!  He has done everything He can to make that possible!  Are you saved?  The Bible alone tells us how to be saved!
