Let's Go Back to the Bible

Our Chief Shepherd

In 1 Peter 5:4, Peter calls Jesus “the Chief Shepherd.”  Take a few minutes and read the book of First Peter with that thought in mind.

The Chief Shepherd keeps us (guards us, watches over us, protects us) by the power of God (1:5); redeemed us with His own precious blood (1:18-19); will not allow His disciples to “be put to shame” (2:6); “suffered for us” (2:21); leads us by the example He left (2:21); patiently endured all things on our behalf (2:23); “bore our sins in His own body on the tree” (2:24); permits us to be healed by His stripes (2:24); shepherds and oversees our souls (2:25); sees us and hears us (3:12); suffered in order to bring us to God (3:18); has all authority “at the right hand of God” (3:22); will reward His sheep (and shepherds) (5:4).

It is a wonderful thought to consider Jesus as our Chief Shepherd and our Good Shepherd, who knows us, loves us, leads us and gave His life for us, His sheep (cf. John 10:7-18)!
