There is a song in our song books with that title – “Jesus Is Coming Soon.” There are preachers in various denominational groups that are teaching, “Jesus is coming soon!” Televangelists have been saying for decades, “Jesus is coming soon!” They point to “signs of the times” and “obvious indicators” (or so they say) that His coming is upon us right now!
However, Jesus Himself said, “But of that day and hour no one knows,” and He likened His coming to that of a thief in the night (Matt. 24:36, 42-44). Thieves do not leave signs of their coming, and neither did Jesus! The “signs” in Matthew 24:1-34 were about the destruction of Jerusalem (see v. 34), and the events described in the book of Revelation were of “things which must shortly take place” in the days of the early church (Rev. 1:1).
So, is Jesus coming soon? Maybe. But, we don’t know! No one knows! The key is to be ready for His coming whatever day it might be (cf. Matt. 7:21; John 12:48; Matt. 24:44)!
