Have you ever been walking through a marketplace or similar place where there are a lot of vendors vying for your attention and, especially, your business? “Come over here and look at this!” “Have I got a great deal for you!” “You have gotta have one of these!” Have you ever tried to get through there without stopping or getting sidetracked and tried to shoo vendors away by saying, “I’m just passing through here to get over there”? It can be a tough challenge.
Isn’t that a lot like life? We are walking through this life and there are “vendors” of the devil vying for our attention and, especially, our “business.” The devil tries all he can to trick us, sell us on something, pull one over on us and make us think (1) that we can’t live without something, (2) that everyone else is doing it, or (3) that we’re getting a really good deal.
Watch out today! The devil is going to try to swindle you and rip you off. Don’t fall for it! Tell him, “I’m just a passing through here to get up there!” (1 Pet. 1:13-17; 2:11-12; 4:7; 5:8-9).
