Let's Go Back to the Bible

How “fixed” is your hope?

As Christians, one of the greatest blessings (or maybe THE greatest blessing) we have is hope. Can you think of anything better? In First Peter 1:13, the great apostle urges us to “fix” (NASB) our hope completely upon the gracious gift that Jesus will bring to us at His return. What a day that will be! Can you picture it? How do we properly prepare for it?

First, in this verse, Peter says we must control our thoughts–“gird up the loins of your mind.” Like the Orientals would gather up loose garments before running, we need to gather up all improper activities of the mind, restrain them and keep them from hindering our run toward heaven. Second, Peter says we must control our tempers, by soberly regulating our feelings, our attitudes and our desires. Wow! Two tough things to control sometimes! But, it will be so worth it, when you “fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” Fixing your hope will help to fix your thoughts and your temper!
