Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the SHARE Florida Food Network program?
- It is a nonprofit, discount food program that allows participants to purchase quality food at significantly reduced prices.
- Typically, participants can get $36-40 worth of food for $18.
- It is NOT a welfare program. It is for anyone who wants to save money.
- It is operated in partnership with local churches & civic organizations interested in helping people in their communities.
- SHARE stands for Self Help And Resource Exchange. It's been in Florida since 1990. The program also exists in 32 other states.
- The idea behind SHARE is to promote volunteerism within your community. Participants are encouraged to do 2 hours of volunteer service each month; however, SHARE does not require participants to volunteer in order to be able to order.
- For more information on SHARE, visit www.shareflorida.org.
- Why Be a SHARE Participant?
- You can save money on your monthly grocery bill, possibly reducing it to half! Whether a household of 1, 2, 3 or 6 or more — you will save money!
- You will spend less time at the grocery store.
- SHARE helps build and strengthen the community.
- How does SHARE work?
- Order & pay for your food on designated dates in the first part of the month (minimum order of $18, plus $1 for local expenses).
- Pick up your order on D-Day near the end of the month (usually the 3rd Saturday of the month).
- It’s that simple!
- What kind of food can be purchased through this program? (see menu, above)
- The Basic Package ($18) includes several meats, plus fruits & vegetables.
- Select Items and Specialty Packages (prices vary) allow participants to design their own food packages around their specific needs & tastes.
- Where does SHARE purchase the food?
- SHARE buys food in large volume at wholesale prices & passes the savings onto its participants. The food is purchased in large volume directly from growers & food producers – the same places grocery stores do. They look for opportunity buys, items that offer both quality & value, and items that our participants enjoy.
- SHARE is a nationwide program. SHARE is the 4th largest food purchaser in the country.
- This is quality, fresh food! (Never day old or dented cans, etc.)
- Is this a fund-raising project for the Palm Beach Lakes church?
- No, it is not. The church does not make any money on the sale of SHARE food.
- The church is permitted (and does) add a $1 per order "local expense charge" to help defray the costs of printing, advertising and occasional purchase of bags. This nominal charge covers only a portion of the expenses incurred by the church in administering the program.
- It is hoped the church's participation in the SHARE Florida Food Network will show those in our community that "we care" and will create opportunities to impact their spiritual lives by sharing the gospel with them.
- How to place orders (see menu & calendar, above)
- Place your order with the church office before the order deadline date.
- Only cash or Money Orders are accepted. No bills over $20, please.
- Orders must be placed in person and must be paid in full.
- Pick up your food at the church building on D-Day.
