Let's Go Back to the Bible

The God of all comfort

There are few thoughts more comforting than the realization that our God is the “God of all comfort” (2 Cor. 1:3). We may think of Him as an all-wise, all-powerful God (and He is!). But, how often does it cross your mind that we have the blessed privilege to be “comforted by God” with a comfort that “abounds through Christ” (1:4-5)?

The word “comfort” (from the Greek parakaleo) means “to call to one’s side to encourage in trying times.” The word is used (in noun or verb form) ten times within five verses in 2 Corinthians 1:3-7, and every verb form is in the present (ongoing) tense. God wants us to know that He is standing beside us and has pulled us to His side to care for us and encourage us.

Hear His words, “Come unto me.” “I will be with you.” “I will never leave you nor forsake you!” Place your trust in Him! “The Lord is my shepherd!” “I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able!” He is our comfort! Let Him comfort you today!
